Ali Khan named Harry Gurney's replacement at KKR

USA's 29-year-old pacer Ali Khan has been roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders, making him the first player from the country to feature in the IPL, the franchise confirmed on Sunday (September 13). Ali has been signed as a replacement for England seamer Harry Gurney, who is due to go under the knife for a shoulder injury, as a result of which, he pulled out of both the IPL and the T20 Blast.

Ali is coming off a historic season with the Trinbago Knight Riders in the just-concluded CPL wherein they remained unbeaten in all the 12 games in the season en route the title. Ali returned eight wickets in the season in as many matches at an economy rate of 7.43 and was among the top pacers in the CPL.
Ali rose to prominence after his big break that came in 2018 when the then TKR captain Dwayne Bravo spotted him at the Global T20 Canada. He ended up featuring in the CPL that year, and in his debut season, Ali returned 16 wickets in 12 matches, the second-best among all fast bowlers in the competition.
Ali has also featured in the Bangladesh Premier League and the Pakistan Super League. He has played one ODI and has a career spanning 36 T20s.
